magnetic strip with adhesive back (0.75” x 100’ – 1 Qty.)
- 0.060” thick
magnetic strip with adhesive back (0.375” x 100’ – 1 Qty.)
DIY (Do It
Yourself) by following these steps:
- Stick
magnetic strips along all edges of the acrylic sheets
- Use the
0.75” wide magnetic strips on edges that will NOT be shared with another
acrylic cover (such as for the top and side portions of the shelving units)
- Use the 0.375”
wide magnetic strips on edges that will be shared with another acrylic cover
(because sharing two edges will be 0.375”+0.375”=0.75”)
- Place magnetic
acrylic sheets on the metal part of the shelving units
BAM! Acrylic
Enclosed Display!
This is part
5 of my giant Lego Star Wars display wall. When displaying Lego items, it needs
to be dust proof because Lego will attract dust like … well, like Lego attracting dust. This fifth
step is to add acrylic covers to protect the display from dust and from kids
who think these UCS sets are play toys. Haha. This step is
really a simple concept, but the execution is somewhat labor intensive. It
involves getting the acrylic sheets cut to size (I used Professional Plastics),
removing all the protective film, then cutting the magnetic strips (that I got
from Amazon), removing the magnetic strips adhesive film, and finally applying the
magnets to every edge of every acrylic sheet. Keep in mind that all the metal
bars on the VITTSJO shelving units are all 0.75” wide, so place the magnetic
strips on the appropriate edges of the acrylic sheets accordingly. This project
was lots of work, but I think it came out great. The magnetic acrylic covers
make it so easy to access the collection, so it’s very functional. Moreover,
the magnet’s color is very similar to the shelving unit colors, so it blends in
well. In the future … if I want a more polished look, I can spray paint the acrylic
edges gloss black to hide the appearance of magnets. Now to sit back and enjoy!
