Instead of building from scratch, I found that this Ikea night stand works perfectly as a pedestal display stand. It's a nice size, has storage drawers, all four sides are finished, and even has a cool glass platform that's "sunken" on top. This sunken platform will be perfect for holding an acrylic cover in place. The only negative: It's discontinued! Therefore, you might not have a choice but to build one based on this cool design.
