LEGO STAR WARS DISPLAY WALL (PART 3 – COMBINING MULTIPLE SHELVING UNITS)

More photos and DIY details after the Jump!

GEEK this look with the following materials:
- Black cable ties (from Home Depot)
- Wire clipper
- Shelving unit from previous blog entry
- More Ikea VITTSJO shelving (grand total of 2 double-units and 2 single-units)

DIY (Do It Yourself) by following these steps:
- For 1 VITTSJO double-unit (Shelf A), remove the front vertical center bar
- For the other VITTSJO double-unit (Shelf B), remove both front and back vertical center bars
- Place Shelf B directly in front of Shelf A
- Tie these double shelving units together using cable ties (cut excess with wire clipper)
- Finally, tie the 2 single-units onto either side of Shelf A with cable ties

BAM! Lego Star Wars Display Wall!

This is part 3 of my giant Lego Star Wars display wall. This third step is to combine a bunch of Ikea VITTSJO shelving units together. Lego Star Wars sets come in a variety of length, width, and high …. so this combined configuration will attempt to contain all types of sizes. The two end-units can capture the smaller sets. The large center-units are double wide and now double deep (it's about 30" deep now - see “Side view” picture), so it can contain the giant size sets (like the new UCS Millennium Falcon)! Removing the vertical center bars does not sacrifice the stability because cable tying all the shelving units together will provide all the necessary support. In other words, it’s pretty stable. This DIY project will continue with part 4 next time … so stay tune.
