MARVEL CAPTAIN AMERICA SHIELD BULLETIN BOARD DIY TUTORIAL

More photos and DIY details after the Jump!

GEEK this look with the following materials:
- 17" X 23" cork bulletin board (from Michael's)
- 14" X 21" cork roll (from Michael's)
- Captain America shield template on 11" X 17" paper (using Microsoft Word)
- Acrylic paint (red, white, and blue), foam brush, painter's tape
- Mod Podge (or glue)
- Sharpie
- Scissors
- Accent items (Ikea Micke desk, Target table lamp, HP laptop, Marvel book, Marvel Legends Captain America action figure)

DIY (Do It Yourself) by following these steps:
- Cut out shield patterns from paper template using scissors
- Trace patterns onto cork roll using Sharpie
- Cut out cork roll patterns using scissors
- Tape patterns onto a flat surface to prepare for painting
- Paint all items white using foam brush
- Let dry, then paint the red and blue parts
- Apply white and blue paint onto appropriate areas of 17" X 23" bulletin board
- After paint drys, glue all patterns onto the 17" X 23" bulletin board

BAM!  Captain America shield bulletin board!

Why have a boring tan cork bulletin board, when it can be made into a three dimension art piece. The function remains the same, but the form is much more pleasing and interesting. This DIY is pretty straight forward, so my only tip is to use white paint as a "base" layer if you want the colors to pop. Painting red and blue directly onto tan cork material will look darker without the white base layer. This came out so well, that I'm thinking about doing Superman and Batman symbols for future projects.
