BATMAN THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS WOOD BOOKEND DIY
More photos and DIY details after the Jump!
GEEK this look with the following materials:
- 0.75" thick Poplar wood (5.5" wide X 24.0" long)
- 0.25" thick Poplar hobby board wood (2.5" wide X 24.0" long)
- Photo materials (4 X 6 photo paper, printer, ink)
- Construction materials (saw, tape measure/ruler, pencil, screws, drill, drill bit, countersink)
- Finishing materials (sandpaper, wood stain, paint, brush, glue, Mod Podge, rubber pads)
DIY (Do It Yourself) by following these steps:
- Measure and cut main wood pieces using pencil, tape measure and saw
- 2 pieces are 5.5" wide X 6.0" long
- 1 piece is 5.5" wide X 6.75" long
- Sand and then stain wood pieces using foam brush
- Create 2 holes to attach the 5.5" X 6.75" vertical wood piece onto the 5.5" X 6.0" horizontal wood piece using drill, drill bit, countersink, and screws
- Print out 4 X 6 photo using printer
- Glue photo onto the other 5.5" X 6.0" wood piece using Mod Podge
- Attach photo wood piece onto bookend using drill, drill bit, countersink, and screws
- Measure and cut hobby board using pencil, ruler, and saw (various width and height to create the buildings)
- Sand and paint the buildings different shades of grey
- Attach buildings in front of the photo wood piece with glue
- Attach rubber pads to bottom of book end
BAM! The Dark Knight Bookend!
This cool 3D looking bookend can be used to hold your graphic novel comic book collection in place. I chose to stain the wood using white wash to bring out the wood grain, but painting it a solid color is also an option. Another option (future project) would be to build a companion left side bookend featuring the Bat Signal over the building cityscape.
